Ok, Is My Water Heater About to Explode?

Hello. My name is Richie. I am a 26 year electrician and a home improvement expert. I will help you the best I can. Your water heater being set at 120 is where it should be. I had this happen before and it is not the water heater if there is not any water running on the floor. Make sure all the water is off in the house. Not the main that is probable by the water heater, just all faucets. Go to the water meter by the street and look to see if the little arrow in the bubble is spinning. If it is spinning then you have an underground leak. Next, turn off the water on the valve runs into the house, not the one by the street but the main one that should be near the water heater. You should be able to shut off the water from inside the house. If you find it and close that valve and still hear water running, then you know it is from the street to the house. If it stops, then it is from there to any other possible faucet. Now you need to figure out which one it is and try to reroute it. What I had to do is put my ear to the floor and figure out that it went to a bathroom sink and reroute the pipe thru a wall. Good luck and God Bless. Jesus Christ loves you.

1. How to stop a leaking hot water heater?

There is a drain valve near the bottom of the tank. It is made to connect to a garden hose. The hose can than be routed out of the house. This does not always work due to sludge in the tank. If you have the water to the tank turned off and it is leaking near the top it should quit leaking. If you try to drain it with a hose, open a hot water faucet in one of your sinks to allow air into the tank while draining

2. My hot water heater is making a buzzing sound?

my heater makes noise when in the recovery cycle

3. Would this work on a water heater TIMER installation? Is it safe?

Yes, it's the same as the concept of a timer plugged into the wall, and then an appliance plugged into the timer. You are just hard-wiring it

4. Is it ok to leave a water heater on pilot setting?

You need to have someone check the vent where it exits the building. The reason the pilot is going out is most likely wind blowing in to the vent from the outside. If this is the case, an appropriate cover needs to be installed.

5. Non Licensed plumber working on gas water heater?

I practice in Florida, not Connecticut, but I think that in most states only people with a license to work on LP lines can touch a gas line. While plumbers may understand "lines" their work sometimes has lethal results. I worked on a case where a well meaning plumber took out a woman's gas hot water tank (thinking it was the only gas appliance in the house) and replaced it with an electric one, at the customer's request. A week later the woman's stove would not ignite b/c the plumber (thinking there were no more gas lines in the house) turned off the gas at the tank and crimped the gas line to the hot water heater shut (or almost shut....) The lady goes out to the tank, turns her gas tank back on, gets her cake mix out, bends in her stove to light her pilot light and kaboom! The entire mobile home exploded and she went airborne, ending up in a yard of a home about 1/2 mile from her own. If that is the case in CT, working on LP lines w/o a permit can get them into big trouble. Instead of bad mouthing your old employer though why not go work for the competition and do good work for fair prices. The customers will follow

6. Normal vs power vent water heater?

ruralfam's answer is right - but I will add more for you. Power vented are better becasue they usually have safety features that shut the unit down if Carbon Monoxide problems and they usually use less energy than non-powered units. However they require an electrical connection. The best water heaters are Direct-vent models such as those by Bosch, Rinnai, AO Smith and Bradford White. Installation of all combustion devices, gas or oil is best left to Pros. One way to make your water heater last longer is to replace the anode rod every 3 years.

How Can I Turn Down the Temperature of My Wwater Heater?
How can I turn down the temperature of my wwater heater?never heard of a water heater exploding.— — — — — —Water Heater RegulationsThe other pending regulation is on new minimum energy efficiency standards for commercial water heating equipment. As mentioned earlier, that rulemaking was not completed by the end of the Obama Administration, and as a result, is now pending. The issue with that rulemaking is it has a legal deadline by which the DOE has to issue the new final rule on new minimum efficiency standards for commercial water heating equipment by May 2018. Because this rulemaking was not completed, it is not subject to the 60-day freeze in the sense that you are not really freezing anything because they never finished it. "But with the new Administration coming in," says Greene, "there is the prospect that it may say, 'Well we do not really think this is necessary and we are going to attempt to roll it back.'"— — — — — —If the pilot light goes out on your hot water heater is it dangerous or harmfulNo, it is not dangerous. (Unless you are working with a water heater that is 20 years old.) In any modern hot water heater, if the pilot light goes out a fail-safe will go off - preventing gas from leaking out. Also, there is a sensor so if there is not enough air-flow or oxygen with the water heater, it will shut off the gas.— — — — — —How to Install a Gas Water HeaterSome areas require seismic straps to prevent earthquake damage. These straps brace the water tank against the wall to keep the unit from toppling over. If you are not in an earthquake zone, skip ahead to the next step. Seismic straps should be installed approximately 6 inches from the top of the water heater and 18 inches from the bottom. Locate the wall studs closest to the strap measurement and drill pilot holes. Secure one end of the strap to the stud with a socket and ratchet. If block covers the studs, use a masonry bit to create a pilot hole. Wrap the strap around the water heater and adjust the size, securing the adjustable bracket on the opposite side. Pull the strap tight and repeat the process on the lower strap.— — — — — —Tank vs. Tankless Water Heaters?Hello, I think it's no problem to run a 3 zone if the power is large enough. More info, please visit the following source.— — — — — —How to Prevent Scale Buildup in a Hot Water Heater Heating ElementWhile there are many things that you can do to prevent scale buildup, one of the most reliable of these is to invest in a water-softening system. This removes the ions dissolved in the water that cause the water to be "hard," calcium and magnesium. A water-softening system must be maintained, as water-softening systems exchange the calcium and magnesium ions for another ion, usually sodium, the sodium ions will run out after a while and need replacement. Because hard water is damaging to pipes and appliances and it inhibits soaps and detergents, however, you may find using such a system worthwhile.— — — — — —The Best Tankless Water Heaters for the HomeHike Crew's portable, propane-powered water heater combines the luxuries of home with the ruggedness of camping. That works well if there are a number of people in the room or they are moving about within the room. Some convection heaters also have fans to circulate the air in the room. Convection heaters are inexpensive. You will get one rated up to 5,000 Btu's for less than $50. Like radiant heaters, convection heaters use a variety of heating elements. Ceramic disc heaters cost up to $150 and produce up to 5,000 Btu's per hour. Oil and water filled units are the most efficient convection heaters. They utilize a heating element in a bath of oil or water. Like a water heater, the element cycles on and off. The water or oil stays warm in it's container and heats the surrounding air.
